Why Pray for the Peace of Jerusalem

God Almighty gave Jerusalem to Israel as an everlasting covenant.

He swore by his own name through Abraham and his seed, Jacob (Israel).

1. He hath remembered his covenant forever, the word which he commanded to a thousand generations. Which covenant he made with Abraham, and his oath unto Isaac; And confirmed the same unto Jacob for a law, and to Israel for an everlasting covenant saying, Unto thee will I give the land of Canaan, the lot of your inheritance. Psalms 105:8-11

2. For when God made promise to Abraham, because he could swear by no greater, he sware by himself. Hebrews 6:13

3. And I will establish my covenant between me and thee and thy seed after thee in their generations for an everlasting covenant, to be a God unto thee, and to thy seed after thee. And I will give unto thee, and to thy seed after thee, the land wherein thou art a stranger, all the land of Canaan, for an everlasting possession; and I will be their God. Genesis 17:7-8

God pronounced a curse upon those who curse Jerusalem.

1. Now the LORD had said unto Abram, get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father’s house, unto a land that I will shew thee: And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great, and thou shalt be a blessing. And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.” Genesis 12:1-2

2. The burden of the word of the LORD for Israel, saith the LORD, which stretcheth forth the heavens, and layeth the foundation of the earth, and formeth the spirit of man within him. Behold, I will make Jerusalem a cup of trembling unto all the people round about, when they shall be in the siege both against Judah and against Jerusalem. And in that day will I make Jerusalem a burdensome stone for all people: all that burden themselves with it shall be cut in pieces, though all the people of the earth be gathered together against it. In that day, saith the LORD, I will smite every horse with astonishment, and his rider with madness: and I will open mine eyes upon the house of Judah, and will smite every horse of the people with blindness. And the governors of Judah shall say in their heart, the inhabitants of Jerusalem shall be my strength in the LORD of hosts their God. In that day will I make the governors of Judah like an hearth of fire among the wood, and like a torch of fire in a sheaf; and they shall devour all the people round about, on the right hand and on the left: and Jerusalem shall be inhabited again in her own place, even in Jerusalem. Zechariah 12:1-6

3. God pronounces judgment on all nations that come against Jerusalem. Every Nation in history that has lifted their hand against Israel has been cursed. God has judged all of them mightily. Most of them either don’t even exist today, or have been weakened beyond comprehension. Zechariah 2:8-9

God pronounced blessings on those who bless Jerusalem.

“I will bless those Who Bless My People.” Psalm 132:13-18

The return of our Lord and Savior is directly related to Jerusalem.

1. Most all prophecy points to Jerusalem and the end times; the new Temple being built, the Antichrist, the Battle of Armageddon and the 144,000 Evangelists.

2. When we pray for the peace of Jerusalem we are praying for the Lord to return. “So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation.” Hebrews 9:28

3. “Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.” Acts 1:11

4. “When the Lord shall build (Hebrew: to obtain children) up Zion, He shall appear in His glory.” Psalms 102:16

5. Revival in the nation of Israel and the world. The church was birthed in the Book of Acts. During the message preached by Peter, he prophesied in Acts 3:19 that a time of refreshing would come from the presence of the Lord, and then Jesus Christ would return. That time of refreshing from the presence of the Lord (revival) will impact the nation of Israel;Arab and Jew alike (reconciliation), and will usher in the return of our Lord.

6. Jesus, in Luke 21:24, prophesied the destruction, dispersion, domination and the deliverance of Jerusalem. All four prophecies have transpired.

Why Pray for Jerusalem? Because praying for Jerusalem is simple obedience to the Great Commission, The Great Commission proclaims that we would be a witness unto Him in Jerusalem, Judea and Samaria. Praying for peace and protection for those who are experiencing the same type of terror that was experienced in America on September 11th is a way to be a witness.

Why Pray for Jerusalem? Because praying for the peace of Jerusalem is sharing God’s love and compassion. Matthew 15:16: “Let your light so shine before men that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.”

The Jerusalem Prayer Team with Dr. Michael D. Evans exists to build Friends of Zion to guard defend and protect the Jewish people and to pray for the peace of Jerusalem. We pray for peace in Jerusalem because the Scriptures tell us to in Psalm 122:6. The Jerusalem Prayer Team was inspired from the 100-year long prayer meeting for the restoration of Israel held in the ten Boom family home in Haarlem, Holland. We are committed to encouraging others to pray for the peace of Jerusalem and God's Chosen People.
